Need a Custom Farm Visit?

From water pans to multi-tunnel greenhouses, we design and install farm structures that fit your farm, anywhere in Kenya.

Arid & Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL)

Counties: Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Turkana, Garissa

Long dry spells, unreliable short rains and high evaporation mean water pans run dry and crops fail between seasons. Many farms are far from the grid, so pumping water means paying for fuel.
Store the rain in an HDPE-lined water pan, lift it with a solar pump and deliver it straight to the roots with drip irrigation. Shade net houses cut heat stress on vegetables.

Water through the dry months, so farmers keep growing and selling after the rains stop.

Highland & Mount Kenya Region

Counties: Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Embu

Cold nights, heavy rains and occasional hailstorms damage open-field tomatoes and capsicum, while tuta absoluta, whiteflies and blight thrive in the cool, wet seasons.
Greenhouses protect high-value crops from rain, hail and cold nights, and anti-insect nets keep pests out. Drip irrigation keeps leaves dry, which helps keep blight down.

Cleaner, higher-grade produce, and harvests that keep coming through the rainy season.

Rift Valley

Counties: Nakuru, Baringo, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia

Erratic rains and mid-season dry spells, strong sun in the lower areas and frost on higher ground. Vegetable growers supplying Nairobi and Nakuru markets need steady water and protected crops.
Greenhouses and shade net houses protect crops from harsh sun and frost, while lined water pans and solar pumps keep irrigation going through dry spells. Shade nets also protect coffee on drying beds.

Steadier yields through dry spells, and less produce lost between harvest and market.

Western & Lake Victoria

Counties: Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Vihiga, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay

High rainfall and humidity bring fungal disease and heavy pest pressure, and farmers who rely on rain alone lose out in the dry months at the start of the year. Farms are small, so every square metre counts.
Shade net houses and greenhouses protect vegetables from heavy rain, pests and disease. Multi-storey gardens and vertical grow bags grow more food on a small plot, and lined water pans store rainwater for the dry months. Served from our Bungoma branch.

More vegetables from a small plot, and produce to sell through the dry months.

Coastal Lowlands

Counties: Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, Lamu, Tana River

Intense sun, heat and humidity, sandy soils that hold little water, and long dry spells between the rains.
Drip irrigation puts water straight at the roots, so little is lost in sandy soil. Lined water pans store rain for the dry season, shade nets protect vegetables and seedlings from the strongest sun, and solar freezers keep fish and produce fresh where there is no grid power.

Vegetables and fruit through the dry season, and less produce lost to heat.

The Climate Challenge:
Long dry spells, unreliable short rains and high evaporation mean water pans run dry and crops fail between seasons. Many farms are far from the grid, so pumping water means paying for fuel.
Symnet Engineering Solution:
Store the rain in an HDPE-lined water pan, lift it with a solar pump and deliver it straight to the roots with drip irrigation. Shade net houses cut heat stress on vegetables.

Key Engineered Technologies:

  • HDPE dam liners, 0.5mm, 0.75mm and 1.0mm
  • Solar water pumps with no fuel costs
  • Drip irrigation kits for vegetables and fruit trees
  • Shade net houses to cut heat stress
  • Solar dryers for mango and other surplus produce
Measurable Farmer Outcome:

“Water through the dry months, so farmers keep growing and selling after the rains stop.”
